Impact Case Study Assessment Sessions

Our impact case study assessment sessions offer authors the opportunity to discuss their impact case study in the early stages of development on a 1:1 basis.

 

Available as a standalone service, they are ideal for:​ 

  • Ascertaining whether an author will have a viable case study within REF timeframe 

  • Helping to pull together various research strands and decide where to focus efforts 

 

Includes: 

  • 1:1 online session 

  • Feedback and suggested next steps provided to author and UoA lead / RM 

In-Depth Impact Case Study Development 

Our impact case study development packages provide bespoke support and guidance to maximise the potential star rating of a REF Impact Case Study. With three tiers to choose from - Essential, Plus and Premium these are designed to suit different budgets and levels of support required.

 

All our ICS packages include:

​

  • In-depth, personalised support with a minimum of one author 1:1 session

  • Initial review of the case study in its current form 

  • Written feedback and recommended next steps to focus effort and accelerate impact 

  • Advice on key areas for improvement including: 

    • clarity of link between the underpinning research and impacts 

    • clarity of impacts claimed and primary and secondary beneficiaries  

    • potential impact pathways to extend the impact 

    • current or potential reach and / or significance 

    • how to best demonstrate reach and significance  

    • additional evidence required and how to collect 

    • consistency, clarity, and readability specifically around structure and narrative flow 

    • An estimate potential star rating if feasible (at the stage of development).

Essential

One-stage review recommended for: 
  • Those who may not need or cannot budget for multiple review cycles. 
  • Teams with a well-developed case study draft seeking a professional, external review before submission. 
  • Those who have already undertaken internal review and want an independent perspective to ensure clarity and readiness.

Plus

Two-stage review recommended for: 
  • Clients who want the benefit of two-stage review cycle - enabling them to act on initial feedback, revise, and then receive a second expert perspective. 
  • Ideal for teams who don’t require the full, iterative development process of the Premium package.

Premium

Four-stage review recommended for: 
  • Those aiming for the highest possible REF ranking and willing to invest in multiple review cycles. 
  • Teams that want full support with a case study from in its formative stages through to submission. 
  • Best offered over a period of 18 months or more

Mock REF Review

Our Mock REF review service is ideal for organisations managing a high volume of draft case studies. Offering a single, expert review per case study either following or preceding an institution’s internal ‘Mock REF’, this service includes:

  • Top level feedback on potential of each case study and areas for improvement
